Easy tomato ketchup recipe for your cravings

Tomato ketchup is something Indians just can’t do without. We have the ability to mix tomato sauce with almost all kinds of food- Indian or International. Be it our morning breakfast containing omelets, our lunch containing a south Indian delicacy, our dinner of north Indian Chicken or any other snack in general- everything tastes heavenly with the flavor of tomato ketchup it.

And catering to the tastes of Indians, the ketchup manufacturers in India keep bringing newer variants of the ketchups and sauces in the market. Tomato ketchups, produced under the name of a plethora of brands offer a wide range of fruit based as well as vegetable based ketchups which have become the parts and parcels of our daily lives.

But then, as they say- a home cooked recipe somehow outdoes its market-based counterpart. We know how much we love tomato sauces made at the hands of our mother and grandmothers, and we’d continue to love them too.


If you’ve not been able to enjoy homemade tomato ketchup for a while, here’s how you can make it with your own hands.

First cut the rinsed tomatoes and rinse garlic, ginger and raisins. These ingredients would add a lot of flavor to your tomato ketchup, so keep them ready when you’re planning to make ketchup. Make sure that you get rid of all the spotted parts and peels of the tomatoes.

Then, take all the chopped tomatoes in a pressure cooker and mix it well with ginger, garlic, red chilies, raisins, salt, sugar and vinegar. Mix it well and keep stirring in the intervals. Blend the mixture after it cools down and make a smooth puree out of it with the help of strainer.

Then keep the strained puree over the boiled water and add sodium benzoate to it (This works as preservative). Let the mixture cool for 1-2 hours. Then keep it in the fridge for 2 days, and serve with a snack.
